For the organization of this Competition, Huawei has partnered with Agorize, a French Simplified Joint Stock Company (Société par Actions Simplifiée, or SAS), registered within the Commercial and Companies Register of Paris under number 530 774 439, with its registered office at 15 Rue Béranger, 75003 Paris, France, which will act as data processor.

Article 2 – Objective of the Competition

The aim of the Competition is to design, in teams, an efficient algorithm that structures mobile photo albums into meaningful life events (“stories”). Based on photo-describing tabular metadata (geographical location, timestamp and caption), the solution must, for each photograph of an album:

  1. assign it to a story set (story_id) or mark it as “Noise”;

  2. assign the category of the story (story_type);

  3. identify whether it is a “Highlight Moments” key photograph (key_photo).

A training dataset is made available to Participants. The test dataset is kept secret and used only to evaluate submitted solutions. The full technical requirements are set out in the topic description published on the Challenge platform, which forms an integral part of these Rules.

Article 3 – Eligibility and Teams

The Competition is free of charge and without any purchase obligation. It is open to any individual who, at the time of registration (hereinafter a “Participant”):

  1. is at least 18 years of age, or has reached the age required by law in their country of residence to enter this Competition;

  2. is either (a) in the last year of high school, (b) a student (Bachelor, Master or PhD) enrolled in a university course in IT, computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics or a similar field, or (c) a graduate of such a course for no more than 2 years;

  3. is registered at a high school or higher education institution located in one of the following countries: [Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine];

Each registration is individual, and only one registration per person is allowed for the entire duration of the Competition. Participants compete in teams of 1 to 3 members, and each Participant may only be a member of one team. It is recommended, but not required, that each team includes at least one PhD candidate.

Each Participant guarantees that the information provided during registration is complete and accurate. Any false, incorrect or incomplete information will automatically result in the application being rejected. The Organizer may at any time request proof of eligibility (e.g. a student certificate or diploma) and reserves the right to reject an application that does not comply with these Rules.

A contest participant is not entering the contest as a person engaged in a non-agricultural business activity that generates income from such activity.

Article 4 – Participation Process

The Competition takes place exclusively online on the platform https://huawei.agorize.com/en/challenges/2026-poland-tech-arena (the “Platform”), except for the final awards ceremony. All deadlines are expressed in Central European Time (CET, UTC+1).

Phase 1 – Registration

  • Dates: from November 9th, 2026 until November 23rd, 2026 at 23:59 CET.

  • Object: every person wishing to participate registers online on the Platform, provides the personal data required in the registration form as described in the Privacy Notice, and creates or joins a team.

Phase 2 – Solution design and submission (3 weeks)

  • Dates: from November 23rd, 2026 until December 13th, 2026 at 23:59 CET.

  • Object: Participants access the topic description, code resources and training dataset, design and train their solution, and submit it on the Platform. Each submission is automatically evaluated on the hidden test dataset. Then the leaderboard updates after every submission and presents the overall total and per-category best score of each of the Teams.

Phase 3 – Evaluation

  • Dates: from December 14th, 2026 until December 16th, 2026.

  • Object: automatic scoring runs throughout Phase 2. The leaderboard is frozen at the submission deadline on December 13th, 2026. The top-ranked teams are then reviewed by the Huawei technical team as described in Article 6, and up to 5 winning teams are selected.

Phase 4 – On-site awards ceremony

  • Date: December 19th, 2026.

  • Place: Warsaw, Poland.

  • Object: There will be a ceremony for winners from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and possible up to the 10th places to join together in Warsaw and to be rewarded.

Article 5 – Submission Rules and Instructions

All submissions must be made exclusively through the Platform during Phase 2, before December 13th, 2026 at 23:59 CET. Submissions and all deliverables must be written in English.

Each submission must follow the format and technical limits described in the topic description; if a submission fails to run in the evaluation environment or exceeds these limits, an error is returned to the team instead of a score.

Each team may make up to 10 submissions per day, at least 15 minutes apart. For each team, the best-scoring submission is automatically retained.

Submissions that do not comply with the required format, content or deadline may be rejected at the sole discretion of Huawei.

Article 6 – Evaluation and Determination of Winners

Each successful submission is scored automatically on the hidden test dataset, as described in the topic description. The score is the weighted average of categorization accuracy (30%), division quality (30%) and Highlight Moments selection (40%).

The final ranking is based on this score. If two or more teams have the same score, the team whose submission has the lowest inference time ranks higher.

Winners are determined based on each team’s best historical submission, as displayed on the leaderboard frozen on December 13th, 2026 at 23:59 CET. The top-ranked teams are then reviewed by the Huawei technical team for full technical requirements set out in the topic description published on the Challenge platform. The code is checked for compliance with these Rules; only scores accepted by the technical team are considered. A team whose submission is not accepted is replaced by the next-ranked eligible team.

Based on this review, up to 5 teams are selected as winners of the 2026 Poland Tech Arena and invited to the on-site awards ceremony. The final prize ranking among them is the leaderboard ranking after the technical team review. Winners are notified by e-mail. The decisions of the Organizer are final.

The following practices are prohibited and lead to disqualification: registering several times or being a member of several teams, sharing code or solutions between teams, using the test dataset or any attempt to access or reverse-engineer it, hard-coding test outputs, circumventing the size, latency or resource limits of the evaluation environment, and any attempt to disrupt the Platform or the scoring system.

The Organizer may cancel all or part of a participation if fraud of any kind is found, in particular computer fraud. In such a case, the Organizer may refuse to award prizes to the persons concerned, disqualify the solution and take legal action against the authors, without incurring any liability toward Participants.

Article 14 – Modification of the Competition

The Organizer reserves the right to shorten, extend, modify or terminate all or part of the Competition, in particular in the event of force majeure, without incurring liability. Participants will be informed by any means, including e-mail and publication on the Platform, of the new applicable rules or dates.

Each Participant may notify the Organizer by e-mail that they refuse the new conditions, in which case they will be excluded from the Competition. If no refusal is notified within 72 hours, the new conditions are deemed accepted. Participants are not entitled to any compensation in case of modification, cancellation, interruption, shortening or extension of the Competition.

Article 15 – Responsibility

The Organizer reminds Participants of the characteristics, limitations and risks of the Internet and accepts no responsibility for any consequences that may occur while they are connected to the Platform.

Neither Huawei nor Agorize shall be liable if Participants cannot connect to the Platform or submit a solution due to, in particular: network overload, electrical or human error, malicious intervention, hardware or software malfunction, emergencies, or any other disruption affecting the smooth running of the Competition.
